First residents make Sandringham Court their new home

The first residents are now moving in to their brand new apartments at Sandringham Court in Hadleigh, Essex, and as the workmen move out and personal pictures and curtains go up so friendships and a real community spirit are emerging.

Designed exclusively for residents of 60 years and over, Sandringham Court affords some of the latest safety technology and care facilities, all housed in an attractive building set in landscaped gardens. It was launched earlier this year and has become not only a new home to many but also a success story for its developer Great Homes Limited of Chafford Hundred too.

Comprising 35 apartments with a striking raspberry and gold themed communal residents’ lounge and an observatory that looks out over open countryside to the Thames estuary beyond, Sandringham Court has proved so popular that many of the homes were snapped up within days of its launch. Only the last few now remain for sale.

One of the first residents to move in was Doreen Watson. “The moment I saw Sandringham Court I really liked it,” says Doreen, who is already getting to know her new neighbours. “It was exactly what I wanted and I made my decision to buy off-plan. Now that I’ve moved in, I like it even more. I thought it might be like coming into an old people’s home but it isn’t like that at all. It’s lovely.”

Doreen, who lived in Benfleet, Essex, for 32 years and is excited about living in the lively town of Hadleigh, likes nothing more than to entertain her family and friends
with delicious homemade meals. She was, therefore, especially taken with the Sandringham Court apartments because of the kitchen layout and its range of fitted appliances.

Many of the apartments have a separate kitchen, along with one or two bedrooms, a lounge and dining room and a bathroom, all set off a private hallway, but Doreen decided on an apartment style that had a kitchen in an alcove arrangement off the lounge and dining room. “I decided that if I was entertaining I didn’t want to be in another room, so I chose my apartment with the kitchen off the lounge area,” explains Doreen. “It was the best thing for me and works very well.”

All the kitchens at Sandringham Court come complete with stylish cabinets, wall tiles, flooring and atmospheric lighting, plus an impressively comprehensive range of integrated appliances. A hob, stainless steel extractor hood and a double oven are fitted, and so, too, are a fridge/freezer and a washer/dryer. Residents can enjoy a complete kitchen from the moment they move in.

The bathrooms, too, are beautifully fitted with a white suite from the Twyford Chantelle range, with some apartments having both a shower and a bath. Other finishing touches include white oak veneer internal doors with brass furniture, balconies or Juliet balconies or patios to some apartments and even fitted carpets and satellite television. But it is the safety and care facilities, along with the residents’ lounge and observatory that have really impressed buyers.

Sandringham Court has its own entryphone CCTV system in place so only welcome visitors may enter the building, plus it has a 24-hour support and careline facility in place together with a duty manager to ensure that residents can get help at any time. Fire alarms are fitted throughout, and even wrought iron railings and fencing surround the landscaped garden to ensure safety and privacy at all times.

The residents’ lounge with its observatory and kitchen, plus a lift and a free internal telephone system have been provided by Great Homes so that residents can keep
in touch with each other at any time while living an independent lifestyle. Car parking, plus a guest room for residents’ family and friends, is also in place.

“I love the view from the residents’ lounge,” says Doreen. “It is good to know that I can live independently in my own apartment but yet if I want company I can go to the residents’ lounge. I also like the fact that if I need help or there is an emergency there is always someone I can call,” says Doreen.

Sandringham Court has become something of a landmark building in Hadleigh’s London Road. Architecturally attractive in two-tone brickwork and its observatory standing proud, it is close to the town’s range of amenities, such as shops, banks and restaurants. It is also within easy reach of Hadleigh Castle Country Park, which offers pleasing country walks, and the larger towns of Basildon, Southend and Rochford.

Sandringham Court has been transformed from a building to a collection of fine homes. Says David Sparks, managing director of Great Homes Limited, “We always wanted to provide a safe, comfortable and luxurious living environment for residents of 60 years and over, and in Sandringham Court we feel it has worked very well indeed. We are delighted to welcome the first residents and wish them every happiness in their new homes.”
