The level of interest in a collection of new homes designed with buyers of 55 years and over in mind at Singleton, Ashford in Kent, has taken its developer, Great Homes Limited, somewhat by surprise - that’s because the company only announced initial plans for the brand new community and began work on site just a few weeks ago.
Now, as the ‘paint’ on the artist impressions begins to dry and the interior layout drawings, specifications and prices are being prepared for release, homebuyers are about to see exactly how this collection of beautiful new secure homes to be known as Windsor Court will eventually look.
“We are delighted with the initial response to Windsor Court,” says David Sparks, managing director of Chafford Hundred-based Great Homes Limited. “We felt there was a need for homes designed especially for more mature residents in this area, and although we are still very much in the early stages of the development, we are extremely pleased with the number of enquiries.”
Windsor Court will eventually comprise 46 apartments offering one and two bedroom homes that can be enjoyed in a secure environment. A CCTV entryphone system will be fitted to ensure that visitors to the building are monitored before they are allowed entry, while residents can live an independent lifestyle safe in the knowledge that a duty manager plus a 24-hour support and careline facility is in place for emergencies.
An integrated fire alarm system will, of course, be a prominent feature of the complex, while the gardens, which will eventually be landscaped, will afford attractive fencing and a gated entry to ensure residents can enjoy privacy as they relax.
Another advantage to living in a secure complex such as Windsor Court is that a real community feel naturally unfolds as new residents move in. In time, residents will be able to enjoy and nurture their new friendships in not only the gardens, but also in a planned residents’ lounge and conservatory area.
“It is good to know that I can live independently in my own apartment but yet if I want company I can go to the residents’ lounge,” says Doreen Watson, who is a resident of Sandringham Court, a similar Great Homes development in Hadleigh in Essex. “I also like the fact that if I need help or there is an emergency there is always someone I can call,” says Doreen.
Interior designs for the lounge are under wraps, but the look will be one of elegance. Great Homes also plans to install a free internal telephone system so that residents can keep in touch with each other whatever the time of day.
There are a number of internal layout designs from which prospective residents can choose. Some will offer one or two bedrooms, while all will have an open plan living environment, plus a bathroom. Similarly, some of the apartments will afford patios or Juliet balconies, depending on whether they are on the ground floor or a higher level. Common to all though is the especially high standard of finish and fittings.
Great Homes prides itself on the care and attention given to every stage of the design and construction procedure, which will be especially evident in the new homes at Windsor Court. Each apartment will be subtly decorated and carpeted, while bathrooms will feature elegant white sanitaryware, and kitchens a full range of units and appliances with a similar practical yet stylish floor covering.
The colour of the flooring can be chosen to suit personal preferences, while integral to each kitchen is a comprehensive range of integrated appliances that includes a fitted double oven, a hob with an extractor fan above, a fridge/freezer and even a washer/dryer as standard. By providing a full range of appliances, Great Homes is pleased that residents can simply move in with very little upheaval.
It isn’t only the interior of the Windsor Court apartments that have been carefully planned, however, the building’s corridors are decorated and carpeted, and Great Homes has even provided a store for electric buggies. Outside, there’s car parking, and the building itself has even been designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding townscape. It lies centrally in Singleton, a growing area of Ashford, and within walking distance of many amenities such as shops for everyday purchases, hair salons and medical and dentistry centres.
For more extravagant purchases, the bustling centre of Ashford, which is steeped in history and only a short bus or car journey away, has its own designer shopping outlet, plus there’s lots of opportunities for leisure pursuits – swimming and theatre among them. For those who enjoy nothing more than a country stroll, the area is surrounded by some of the finest countryside in the country. The North Downs and its pretty villages are a pleasure to see – and live amongst.
