With its lavish fabrics, rich carpeting and a collection of furniture that provides comfort and well as style, the brand new residents' lounge and conservatory at Windsor Court, Singleton, is set for unveiling on Saturday, March 4?... much to the delight of the many retirement home buyers keen to see it. Now it is set to become a reality!
The interior design theme for the lounge and conservatory is the striking combination of honey and terracotta, with fabrics inspired by Italy and its lakes. Maggiore, Garda and Geneva are the names given to the rich terracotta shades used for the upholstery on chairs and sofas, while curtaining and cushions have been created with fabrics named Sorrento Honey, Roma Honey and Amalfi Honey.
All the upholstery and curtaining fabrics were selected from the Blendworth Fabrics range by Sara Gilbert, the in-house interior designer at Great Homes Limited, the award-winning company behind Windsor Court. Sara is excited about visitors' reaction to the concept when they see it on March 4.
"The residents' lounge is a spacious room and opens out into the conservatory, which itself looks out over Windsor Court's elegantly landscaped gardens and a reed bed pond. I used this view as an inspiration for the interior design concept," explains Sara.
"I have used fabrics which are really elegant, and yet by using a combination of honey and terracotta the rooms have a cosy feel too. I have chosen the same theme for the communal walkways between the apartments, which gives the building a lovely streamlined look. I am really looking forward to hearing people's comments when they see the concept. They won't be disappointed," she laughs.
The residents' lounge and conservatory is the latest stage in a process that has seen Windsor Court emerge as a popular place for those looking for luxurious sheltered retirement apartments in the Ashford area. The first residents will be moving in this April.
Taking the design of the building and apartments from Sandringham Court, a project in Hadleigh, Essex, for which Great Homes won the prestigious 'Best Essex Development' category in the Daily Mail UK Property Awards 2005, Windsor Court has been designed exclusively with buyers of 55 years and over in mind.
Safety and security features are second to none, offering residents an independent lifestyle and yet the knowledge that their home is secure and help is always around in the event of an emergency. Windsor Court has a 24-hour support and careline facility, for instance, which residents can access, literally, at the push of a button if in need of help. A manager is also on hand during the day for advice.
Additional security is provided by a system whereby the entrance door is fitted with a CCTV televised monitor that shows who is calling before they are admitted into the building, plus the building is protected by quality locks and an integrated fire alarm system. The garden, itself, is secured by attractive yet practical wrought iron railings and gates. It all adds up to complete peace of mind.
The apartments, themselves, are beautifully presented. Offering one or two bedrooms with a choice of layouts available, the 46 apartments have a spacious lounge, dining and kitchen open plan area which has proved hugely popular with buyers. One resident of Sandringham Court, Doreen Watson, enjoys her open plan living arrangement. She says, "I decided that if I was entertaining I didn't want to be in another room, so I chose my apartment with the kitchen off the lounge area," explains Doreen. "It was the best thing for me and works very well."
Common to all the apartments is a high quality finish and specification that includes an elegantly fitted bathroom complete with vanity unit, double glazing, economic heating and a fully fitted kitchen with integrated appliances - residents will not only have a fitted oven, hob and hood, but a washer/dryer and fridge/freezer too.
Other finishing touches include terrestrial and satellite television points, telephone sockets and a free integrated internal telephone system, plus, in many of the apartments, opening French style doors to juliet style balconies. There's a guest room for overnighting family and friends, plenty of car parking and even a buggy store, plus of course the Italy inspired residents' lounge and conservatory due for unveiling.
Windsor Court, which was officially launched by the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Malcolm Eke, just a few months ago, stands proudly in Hoxton Close, Singleton. It is within easy walking distance of local amenities such as restaurants, shops, medical and dentistry practices, and just a few miles from the centre of Ashford with its own collection of specialist shopping and leisure opportunities.
"I've seen the development grow over the past few months and it is a pleasure now to see it taking shape," said Cllr Eke when he launched the project. "I think the idea of sheltered homes will make it a real asset to the area and one that is definitely needed."
