GREAT HOMES LIMITED DELIGHTED TO ACHIEVE INVESTORS IN PEOPLE AWARD

Great Homes Limited, the award-winning Chafford Hundred-based developer of family homes, retirement apartments and commercial property throughout Essex and Kent, is delighted to announce its success in becoming an Investor in People company.

The award, a national standard of excellence pioneered by the Government’s Department for Education and Skills that provides a planned approach to improving business performance and objectives through the commitment to training for employees, was presented to David Sparks and Chris Lineham, directors of Great Homes Limited. “We have enjoyed a steady expansion over the past few years and key to this has been the loyalty of our staff,” says managing director David Sparks.

“We have always considered the people in our organisation to be the most important part of our operation and feel it is important to continually train our staff to enable them to achieve their goals and those of the company. We are delighted, therefore, that our commitment has been recognised under the Investors in People scheme.”

The Investors in People’s criteria for assessment is high and involves key principles that businesses must work to. These include establishing a set of goals m/f - 2 - and objectives for the business and its staff, and how these can be achieved through training and personal development. For the employee, the rewards are not only increased knowledge and confidence, but also the satisfaction in knowing that they are a key member of a growing and developing business.

Companies working to achieve the Investors in People accreditation are continually evaluated and assessed by local Government personnel to ensure they fully understand the enormity of the commitment, its strategic impact on their business and how the standard’s criteria is to be met.

In the case of Great Homes, the directors drew up an action plan for the business and then discussed with its team, both in its office and on its development sites throughout Essex and Kent, where staff training was required. Every member of the Great Homes team had a tailored training programme designed and implemented to enhance his or her skills. This assessment process also included looking at the roles of its sub-contract personnel, a key sector of its workforce.

“Achieving the Investors in People award has involved effort and commitment at every stage, but we felt it was important for our business and for our staff. We are confident the process has resulted in increased efficiency and happiness amongst our staff,” says David Sparks.

Great Homes employs both office and construction staff. It is currently marketing a new phase of high specification office accommodation at Ascension Business Park and contemporary styled starter apartments in South Ockendon, Essex, along with a complex of 46 retirement apartments designed for buyers of 55 years and over at Windsor Court, Singleton in Kent. The latter is based on the designs of Sandringham Court, a similar project in Hadleigh, Essex, for which the company won a Daily Mail Property Award for its innovation, quality of build and levels of safety and security.

Previous projects have included family homes in Great Yeldham and at Branksome Mews in Stanford le Hope, and commuter apartments at Gower Place in Chafford Hundred.
