Great Homes Limited, which has been officially informed that it is to receive an award in the prestigious Daily Mail UK Property Awards for its Windsor Court development in Singleton, near Ashford in Kent, has just announced plans to build 23 brand new retirement apartments in Gidea Park’s conservation area. The environmentally aware designs of the new Main Road development, to be known as Highlands, are based on those of Windsor Court.
The full extent of the company’s success in the Daily Mail UK Property Awards 2007 will be revealed at a gala dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Friday, October 5. It is the second time Chafford Hundred-based Great Homes Limited has earned one of these coveted awards, and for consecutive developments. The first was for its Sandringham Court development in Hadleigh, Essex. This is sure proof that the company can not only compete but also triumph within the highly competitive UK property arena.
Having been given this high recommendation by its peers, the company will be entitled to display the Daily Mail UK Property Awards’ logo with pride. This symbol of excellence will be recognised and appreciated by the public who are becoming increasingly well informed and discerning about the properties they seek to buy.
Entries were judged by a panel of professionals whose collective knowledge of the property industry is second to none and unsurpassed by any other property awards. Chaired by Eric Pickles, British Shadow Secretary of State, this year’s judges included Imtiaz Farookhi, chief executive of the National House Building Council; Peter Bolton King, chief executive of the National Association of Estate Agents; and Phil Spencer, property expert and presenter of Channel 4’s Location and Relocation TV shows.
David Sparks, managing director of Great Homes Limited, says, “We are delighted that Windsor Court has been recognised as an award-winning development by such illustrious experts in the world of property, and that we as a company have been honoured again in the Daily Mail UK Property Awards.”
Barbara Cowpe, a resident of Windsor Court, knew she wanted to live at the retirement development the moment she walked in through the door. “We liked it as soon as we saw it and decided to buy straightaway,” she says. “What strikes you is that it is so bright and comfortable. It is like living in a hotel.” Her comments are echoed by many other residents of the popular development.
Highlands in Gidea Park, similarly, will offer many of the features that have made Windsor Court and its predecessor Sandringham Court such success stories. Designed exclusively for buyers of 60 years and over, Highlands will, for example, offer state-of-the-art safety and security features, and 24-hour emergency support and careline facilities provided by specialist management company Peverel.
There will be a residents’ lounge and conservatory, landscaped gardens that will incorporate existing mature trees, a guestroom and a library. Each apartment will afford a high specification and many luxury features. “We always listen to our purchasers’ feedback and learn from the comments made,” says Mr Sparks, who like fellow director Chris Lineham, lives in the Havering area. The Great Homes directors are especially keen to provide this type of housing in the area. “Where possible we always incorporate residents’ ideas into future schemes so that we can provide a unique product. We learn from every new home we build,” adds Mr Sparks.
Highlands, importantly, will be built to blend with the surrounding Arts & Crafts style of the homes that surround it in Gidea Park’s conservation area. Great Homes has worked closely with specialist historic buildings advisor David Stenning throughout the design process to ensure the new building will complement the street scene. It stands in the ‘Romford Garden Suburb’, an area that became an exhibition of the finest architectural styles of the day in 1910-11.
Furthermore, Highlands has been designed and will be built strictly to the Code for Sustainable Homes and, as such, will afford many energy efficient measures. “Our aim is always to create high specification homes that provide our residents with a safe and secure environment, and we are delighted that this has been recognised for a second time in the Daily Mail UK Property Awards,” says Mr Sparks. “We now eagerly look forward to learning more about the full extent of our success in October, and pressing ahead with developing Highlands.”
