RESIDENTS’ LOUNGE AND LIBRARY SET TO BE UNVEILED AT HIGHLANDS

The eagerly-awaited unveiling of the residents’ lounge, its adjoining sun lounge and a library at Highlands, the brand new development of retirement apartments with top notch safety and security features currently under construction in Gidea Park, is set to take place in just a couple of week’s time – much to the delight of the residents who have already secured their new home and those who have yet to decide.

Sarah Nicolson, the interior designer for Great Homes Limited, the award-winning Essex-based company behind the new project, has chosen a rich collection of golden earthy colours to give the lounge and library an authoritative feel. For the walls Sarah has used subtle sandstone shades complemented by toning carpets, curtains and chenille soft furnishings with leather Chesterfield sofas, a stylish glass cabinet and bookcases to give the large space a warm and sophisticated look.

“I wanted to give the lounge and library a sense of elegance,” says Sarah, “but also create a space where residents can relax, enjoy the company of their fellow Highlands residents and somewhere that feels like home.” Sarah is currently putting the finishing touches in place ready for the unveiling event on Saturday, June 7. Doors will open at 10am and visitors can take a look around Highlands right through to 5pm.

Throughout the event, members of the Great Homes Limited team and personnel from sales agent Porter Glenny will be on hand to show visitors the new residents’ lounge, sun lounge and library, as well as the striking interior designed show apartments, again the work of Sarah, which were launched just a few weeks ago. “The whole project of creating superb show apartments, the lounges and the library has been an absolute pleasure to work on and I feel sure visitors as well as residents when they begin to move in this summer will like the look.”

Highlands, when complete, will comprise 23 one and two bedroom high specification apartments where residents of 60 years and over can live independently in the knowledge that the complex affords state-of-the-art safety and security features.

For instance, Highlands will feature a CCTV entryphone system whereby visitors will be monitored before being allowed entry into the building. Access is permitted by residents themselves or a Day Manager who will be on site to ensure the smooth running of the development.

Highlands will also afford an integrated fire alarm system, along with Secure by Design windows and doors to the ground floor apartments. Residents will have peace of mind in knowing that a 24-hour careline facility has been arranged by Great Homes through specialist management company Peverel so that help can be gained at the press of a button in the event of an emergency. There’s a free internal telephone system, and Highlands stands in gardens that feature a gated driveway, too, adding to the sense of security.

In terms of specification, Highlands is hard to beat. Each apartment has a carefully designed layout to ensure ease of living. A hallway leads through to the lounge and dining areas of each apartment, the kitchen, one or two bedrooms, some of which afford en-suite bathrooms, and the main bathroom. All the apartments feature both a bath and a shower, and are presented with elegant white sanitaryware and complementing wall tiles and carpet. Internal doors are heavy oak while windows are double glazed bespoke designed timber.

The kitchens of each apartment are similarly well presented. Wooden ‘peach skin’ effect units come complete with integrated Bosch appliances that include a washer/dryer, fridge and freezer, oven, combination microwave, hob and extractor. Finishing touches include stylish tiles on the walls, floor covering, coving and spot and pelmet lighting.

Highlands, which has been designed and built to the Code for Sustainable Homes standard and has lots of extras like a guest suite and on site parking, is located close to amenities in Main Road on land that was once part of the estate owned by local Member of Parliament Major Sir Herbert Raphael. The external design of the building echoes that of the Arts and Crafts styling of similar properties in the popular Gidea Park conservation area.

For the chance to see Highlands, the show suite is open every weekend from 10am to 5pm or visit during the special unveiling of the residents’ lounges and library event on Saturday, June 7.
